§ 17-1. Ascension Parish Planning and Zoning Commission—Created.
There is hereby created the Ascension Parish Planning and Zoning Commission, said commission to be vested with all the responsibilities delineated in Louisiana Revised Statutes, section 33:101 et seq., and the responsibilities delineated in Louisiana Revised Statutes, 33:4780.40.
The Planning and Zoning Commission shall consist of seven (7) members to be appointed by the Ascension Parish Council. Terms of the members shall be as follows: Three (3) members shall serve an initial one-year term, and four (4) members shall serve an initial term of two (2) years. Thereafter, each member shall serve a two-year term.

Editor's note— It should be noted that an ordinance adopted Aug. 15, 1996, provided in its preamble that:
Where a parish has adopted a home rule charter, it may avail itself of the power and authority which Louisiana Revised Statutes, Section 33:103, grants to a planning commission.

The ordinance of Aug. 15, 1996, provides, … that the number of Ascension Parish Planning and Zoning Commission members is hereby increased from seven to nine."
